MOVIE REVIEW of Blade:Trinity

Blade: Trinity and "Semiotics"

In this movie review, I will explain how Semiotics is related to the movie Blade: Trinity.

First is Semiotics, also called semiotic studies or (in the Saussurean tradition) semiology, is the study of signs and sign processes (semiosis), indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification, and communication. Semiotics is closely related to the field of linguistics, which, for its part, studies the structure and meaning of language more specifically. Semiotics is often divided into three branches:
  • Semantics: Relation between signs and the things to which they refer; their denotata, or meaning
  • Syntactics: Relations among signs in formal structures
  • Pragmatics: Relation between signs and the effects they have on the people who use them

Blade: Trinity is a movie about a vampire hunter, Blade, that strikes at night killing vampires without a trace. Although, many civilians are taking notice of him since explosions, gunshots, and shouting of people can't be avoided every time. So, he just simply claims that he hunts vampires at nights. After hearing many complaints from civilians and Blade's illogical reasons, the FBI is decided to chase down Blade. Also, accuses him of being misguided and psychologically ill for thinking vampires exists. At the same time, Dracula is being revived by it's fellow vampire to fight and kill Blade which will put the vampires at an advantage in ruling the world. The movie is all about vampire hunters, vampires and Dracula. The movie is packed with action, which includes; a lot of hand-to-hand combat, explosions, vampires turning to ashes, shooting, advanced weaponry, and intense sword fighting. In relation to Semiotics, in the movie, as usual, vampires are monsters that prowls in the night having sharp teeth and enhanced physical capabilities that will assist them at catching their prey, and having sunlight as their primary weakness. Although, vampires are also considered as fictional beings. Also, in the movie, Dracula is portrayed differently. For, he doesn't wear a cape, having pale skin and sharp elf-like ears, and is vulnerable to holy water and crosses. Instead, he looks like a human being with a muscular physique. He has super enhanced physical and mental capabilities far beyond than of a normal vampire, and he can move freely under the light of the sun.
